Temple of Forgiveness

It would be easy to label David Best as an emancipator. His beautiful Temple of Forgiveness, which is on display for the last time at Burning Man, offers visitors a place to leave past memories behind. Participants are invited to leave a token of a burdensome memory behind. At the end of the festival the Temple is burned to ashes with the sentimental pieces provided by all who wish to participate.

Once a year, on a vast Nevada lake bed surrounded by mountains, the Burning Man festival brings together tens of thousands of people who are attracted by the festivalâ€™s promise of seven days of â€œdecommodification,â€ â€œcommunity,â€ â€œartwork,â€ and â€œrevelry.â€ But increasingly, many question whether Burning Manâ€™s mainstream appeal threatensâ€”or even upendsâ€”the festivalâ€™s utopian vision. Through a series of in-depth interviews of the festivalâ€™s founders, organizers, and participants, DUST & ILLUSIONS traces the festivalâ€™s history, while examining whether the festival is a victim of its own success.

This is a documentary still in post-production. The release is planned for early 2009. This will complete 4 years of work, research, filming, interviewing, to create a documentary in its true form. This is a very new perspective on the event.
